16 June; Sabbath at the Dismal Swamp

On Sabbath Mum and I (Emily) went on the Great Dismal Swamp Trail. It was a special time we got to spend together with God while the boys were in Cowpens, South Carolina. We went a total of 6 miles on our scooters down the trail, stopping after a little bit to watch butterflies, beautiful flowers, or just to sit down and read our Bibles.

Here is Mum with some beautiful flowers, queen anne's lace:

Me (Emily) during my Bible time:

I am so thankful that we got to spend Sabbath in this new way! God sure has some amazing creations! I just love being apart of it!

Love in Christ,
Emily

May; Time to visit, AGAIN, Washington DC

We never tire of visiting Washington, DC; the sites, memorials, museums, etc... This was one of our pilgrimages to the Nation's Capital.
We stand in awe, every time we visit the Iwo Jima Memorial and always recall Mr. Tom's stories of being a young Navy Corpsman and caring for Marines during this battle.
The house is where David spent many formative years as a young adult, in Alexandria VA, w/ the Baker family.

31 May; Ross Schmidt 'Drops in for a Visit'

Ross Schmidt and David have been friends for 40 years! Ross, who lives on two continents... is known for 'drop-ins.' His a pilot and gets around... The first photo is of us out to dinner, Ross has the dark shirt and hair :-}. The 2nd photo is when Barb, DJ, and Emily got to go flying w/ Ross' friend Larry.

3 June; AWANA Awards Night @ London Bridge Baptist Church

AWANA is still a very active part of our Spiritual Journey! Here are some photos A family shot (Gray shirts live on!), DJ receiving the Citation Award w/ another Clubber, Dave and Emily with other clubbers, and Emily doing a Sign Performance w/ some of the 5th - 6th grade girls.

12 - 17 June; Trip to Cowpens (SC) for the 30th 'Mighty Moo Festival'

--
The person on the left in the Whites is my dad and I (DJ) am standing next to him. We went to the town of Cowpens, South Carolina. Cowpens was the site of a famous Revolutionary War Battle; if you've seen the movie 'The Patriot,' the scene right before the Battle of Yorktown is Cowpens.
The trip was for a reunion for the crews of the two Navy ships that have been named USS COWPENS. The WWII ship CVL-25 and the current ship CG-63. There were about 24 men from the CVL-25 and 4 from the CG-63.
The most significant parts of this trip were:
1. The hospitality of the people of Cowpens; the town goes all out for this annual event.
2. The comradere of the crew; the CVL-25 crew, the youngest being about 80, in particular have great life stories.
3. The spiritual nature of the this whole event; Gospel Songfest, memorial service, prayer-prayer-and more prayer.
We look forward to returning next year.
